One of my favorite holiday movies and themes: How the Grinch Stole Christmas! I’ve loved that Grinch since I was a child! So it comes as no surprise if you know me that I want to do a special movie night every December as part of our traditions with our Elves, Twinkle and Snowflake.
This year, I saw the cutest “grinchy” yarn at Dollar Tree and thought it would make perfect grinchy outfits for the elves. It was so simple, too! I just wrapped the yarn around them and tucked it in when I was done. So it was also easy to remove and I can re-use it next year. The children got a real kick out of their grinchy fur! 🙂
Last year Target was selling a few “Grinch” items and i snagged up this matching game that we get out for the night and keep it out for the rest of the month.
I used a bit of the yarn to wrap it around the movie.
I went with red and green because I already had a lot and I didn’t have as much for a “Who-ville” theme, yet. That’s the plan for next year’s movie night! Can’t wait!
I made some pillowcases with fabric from JoAnne’s. The Who’s stocking banner is from Michaels. I would like to add more stocking to it before next year and mix them up with different shapes and styles. This was what I grabbed last minute.
O looooove the white one! I want to get more material next year if they have this one! With the extra fabric I had leftover, I made a quick, small table runner.
Here is a little secret: I cheated! Lol…I was already tired of sewing just after 2 pillow cases and too excited to decorate (which is the fun part for me) that I just used my glue gun to fold over the edges and glue them together. So really, I guess the table runner was a no-sew! 😀
I printed up some quick cupcake picks (and forgot liners! plus…we had muffins, not cupcakes, lol).
I made some “Grinch” popcorn. It was really easy and it’s a lot like rice krispy treats, but with popcorn! I used a popcorn bag (not from scratch…I know, I know…we’re trying to switch!) and popped those and let it cool. I melted butter and marshmallows, added green food coloring, drizzled it over the popcorn and mixed it up. After it cooled off, I added Christmas sixlets (so they don’t melt).
We have a lot of hot chocolate during December! I love making the baggies up with tags and yes, we use Swiss Miss and I don’t make that from scratch either, lol. It’s sooooo good, though! I do usually have extra choices for hot chocolate, like extra marshmallows, whipped cream, and Andes peppermint chips.
Some other movie night goodies we had were cookies and yogurt parfaits:
the yogurt is Key Lime so it’s already a green shade and the cookies are the recipe found online that are Easy, No Fail Sugar Cookies with a royal icing (not buttercream because I wanted it to harden up to stack later).
I wanted the piping to match the Grinch’s fur and I think it turned out pretty good for an amateur and not enough icing tips, lol.
For the popcorn bags, I just printed out what I wanted on paper and trimmed it to fit the white paper bags I keep on stock for movie nights.
It is listed as “Subway Art for Frame” on my printables, but I also used this for the bags.
Now that it’s all set up, we’re ready for Grinch theme movie night!
My daughter love, love, loved that Snowflake was in the Grinchy spirit and laughed at how silly she looked!
Yes…we hold and love on our elves like family if you haven’t caught that from previous posts. 🙂
Getting our hot chocolate and snacks to enjoy our night! Merry Grinch-mas to you!

Love this. Can’t wait to do it. Might do the rice crispies with green! Where did you get that light up chalk board tray?!? I just added a wig to my elf today.

I got the light up chalkboard sign at Michaels about 2 years ago.

Please let me know where you got the chalk board tray and tell me any new ideas you have for your elf this yearbook

If I have any new ideas, I will be sure to post here. 🙂 I have not started planning random days. I plan our themed movie nights ahead and our annual North Pole Breakfast. The days in between happen spur of the moment, depending on what my littles are interested in. 🙂
